بعض المسيحيين يشمتون بتركيا ويعتبرون أن الهزّة الأرضيّة التي ضربتها قصاص إلهي لأنها حوّلت كنيسة آيا صوفيا إلى جامع – لن أشارك رابط لهذه البوستات لأنني لا أريد تشجيعها. هناك سوء فهم عميق للإيمان المسيحي على عدّة مستويات
أولا، هناك سوء فهم عميق لمفهوم “المسيحيين.” يوجد أتباع ليسوع في كل أنحاء العالم. يوجد أتباع ليسوع في تركيا ولو كانوا مسلمين على الهوية. والمسيحيين الذين يشمتون بالموت ويبتغون الإنتقام من المسلمين هم على الأرجح أبعد عن يسوع ولو كانوا مسيحيين على الهوية
ثانيا، هناك سوء فهم عميق لمفهوم الكنيسة. مبنى آيا صوفيا ليس كنيسة إن لم يكن هناك من جماعة تحب يسوع تجتمع هناك أسبوعيا لعبادة الله. بيتك قد يكون كنيسة. الجماعة هي الكنيسة وليس مبنى أثري قديم (وجميل جدا). آيا صوفيا لديها قيمة تاريخية وربما قيمة معنوية للمسيحيين. ولكن لا قيمة كنسيّة روحيّة لها
ثالثا، هناك سوء فهم عميق لشخصية الله. الله في المسيح لا يدين العالم بل يقدّم مجال للرحمة والتوبة. الله لا يتعامل معنا بالشرور والمصيبة. قد يحوّل الشر والمصيبة للخير. قد تكون المصيبة فرصة للتوبة. ولكن الإله الذي نلتقي فيه في المسيح لا يرسل هزّة أرضيّة ليقتل ناس انتقاما منهم. هناك مكان للإنتقام الإلهي في الدينونة النهائية. ولكن ليس بهذه الطريقة وليس الأن. ردّة فعل الله هي الحزن العميق على هلاك البشر. أقلّه هذا ما نعرفه ونكتشفه في يسوع وكتبنا المقدّسة
تعازيّ الحارّة لكل العائلات التي فقدت أحبّاء لها في الهزّة، سواء كانو مسيحيين أو مسلمين أو ملحدين أو غيره
لا كلمات تعبّر عن عمق الفاجعة. يا رب ارحم
دعونا نقف لنصلّي
يا رب
اكسر قلبنا
واحن ركبنا
لكي نغسل أرجل عالم مكسور
وحزين

Some Christians are celebrating the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey saying that its a divine retribution on Turkey for turning the historic Hagia Sophia church into a mosque. I will not share the links to those posts as I do not want to encourage them. I believe that there is a deep misunderstanding of the Christian faith on a number of levels:
First of all, there is a deep misunderstanding of the concept of “Christians.” There are followers of Jesus all over the world. There are followers of Jesus in Turkey even if they are Muslims on their IDs. Christians who celebrate death and seek revenge against Muslims are probably farther away from Christ even if they are Christians on their IDs.
Secondly, there is a deep misunderstanding of the concept of church. The Hagia Sophia building is not a church if there is no congregation that meets there weekly to worship God. Your house can be a church. The church is the people and not an ancient building (as beautiful as it might be). Hagia Sophia has historical value and perhaps psychological value for Christians. It does not have any ecclesial (church) spiritual value.
Thirdly, there is a deep misunderstanding of the character of God. God in Christ is not condemning the world but providing a chance for repentance and mercy. God does not deal with us in evil and catastrophes. He changes evil and catastrophes to good. The catastrophe might be a chance for repentance. But the God we meet in Christ does not send an earthquake in revenge to kill people. There is a place for divine revenge in the final judgement. But that is not the way now or here. God’s reaction to this catastrophe is one of deep sadness at the loss of life. That is what we know and discover in Jesus and our scriptures.
I offer my deepest condolences to all families who lost loved ones in the earthquake be they Christians, Muslims, atheists, or from other faith traditions.
Words cannot begin to describe the depth of this tragedy! Lord have mercy!
